Hiking Aspen to Crested Butte

This is a bucket list hike that I had on my calendar for a year. I planned an entire family trip around it. Unfortunately, the unusually heavy winter weather meant there was still miles of snow and avalanche debris on the trail. It was still doable for more adventurous and determined hikers. For me, I wanted the beautiful summer views with flowers and pretty dirt trails but I didn't want to deal with buying microspikes for snow crossings, heavy water crossings in freezing temperatures, and trying to find the trail with a GPS because of the avalanche debris. I decided another time. I love a good long challenging hike. I love the steep climbs and excitement of a hard hike; but reading all the updates online about how the conditions were while we were there just wasn't appealing to me. since I had done quite a bit of researching on this hike, I am sharing the websites that were very informative. I also have a board on Pinterest board with all the links.
A few quick notes about this hike especially if You are doing a day hike:
1. Transportation to and from the trailheads can be tricky. Make sure you understand how you are going to get to the trailhead on both sides. It is a 3.5-4 hour drive from Aspen to CB.
2. Mid-July or later is best time to do the hike. Except this year lol)
3. Start early and bring plenty of water or filter system. Obvi.
4. Follow every hashtag you can think of instagram as a constant reminder of why you want to do this hike!
